3rd Rail Print Space Member Spotlight: Fairbairn and Wolf Studio
Fairbairn and Wolf is a textiles design studio specialised in screen/digital printing designs and fabric developments for both fashion and interior Industries. The studio has worked with some of the world’s leading fashion brands since they began in 2015, including Gap, Karen Millen and Vera Wang. We joined up with the 3rd Rail Print Space members for a chat about their upcoming work and what inspires them.
Can you tell us about the studio?
We create original print designs for fashion and interior brands with exclusive worldwide copyright. All of our designs are hand-drawn, converted to digital format at high resolution. We have traditional screen printing facilities to produce colour discharge and hand painted samples in house. Our CAD team provides colour separation and repeats.
All of your designs are hand-drawn, is this an important aspect of your design process?
It is very important for us to be hands on and create inspiring materials, any method counts as long as you have the ability to create rather then generate.
What’s your main source of inspiration?
We love to be inspired by fine art and illustration.
You’ve collaborated with some major fashion brands, what’s been your favourite project to date?
Our favourite project is actually an upcoming collaboration with Something & Sons, it is an architecture project and we are printing 100 meters of wood. The project is called Peckham Palms.
Can you tell us any exciting projects you’re working on at the moment?
We are trying to develop our screen print abilities even further. We have recently started experimenting with working by drawing directly on to screens and using projections.
